Reynoldstown, Georgia

Community Overview

In A Nutshell

Reynoldstown has a rich history that dates back to the end of the Civil War. The neighborhood is reinventing itself in a very new way, and it has a diverse population, a wide array of housing styles and a proactive group of residents to prove it. Located two miles from Atlanta's downtown core, the famed BeltLine bisects Reynoldstown on the north-south axis, and Memorial Drive runs through the southern portion of the community. Many of the former industrial buildings along Memorial Drive have been renovated to become stylish and trendy lofts, apartments, townhomes and condominiums.

Walking, Biking, or Driving

This pedestrian-friendly community will find residents out in the vicinity of Flat Shoals Avenue for morning walks to ParkGrounds Atlanta, or strolling Memorial Drive's shops, businesses and eateries. Phase II of the Eastside Trail extension for the BeltLine opened in 2019, bringing the trail through the neighborhood from Krog Tunnel to Memorial Drive. The community is also served by the Inman Park/Reynoldstown MARTA station.

The Scene

With a supply of well-preserved vintage homes and modern dwellings carved out of former factories and warehouses, Reynoldstown has become a sought-after neighborhood for first-time homebuyers as well as "empty nesters." It remains a friendly, down-to-earth community of people committed to preserving the best of the past and planning a vibrant and creative future. There is a thriving arts culture, a wealth of diverse eateries, local celebrations that include a Wheelbarrow Festival every September and an indomitable community spirit.

The Backstory

Reynoldstown was settled originally by railroad workers, many of whom were freed slaves. The neighborhood's name is thought to honor early residents Sarah and Madison Reynolds. Annexed in 1909 by the city of Atlanta, Reynoldstown suffered from the decline of the railroads beginning in mid-century. In the early 1990s, however, it became popular because of its well-preserved homes, buildings in need of renovation and near-downtown location.
